2022 ‘With Snow leopard’Small Grant winning projects

Snow Leopards and Grasslands
2022-10-20

The Snow leopard (Panthera uncia) is a charismatic apex predator, listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. The snow leopard range spans twelve countries in Asia, encompassing vast landscapes where the species co-exists with human communities.

In order to promote snow leopard research and conservation across the snow leopard range, Tencent Foundation, Shan Shui Conservation Center, and the Amity Foundation together initiated the ‘With Snow Leopards’ Small Grant (SLSG) in 2022 and started this year’s call for proposal on 25th July 2022.

Until 21st Aug, we have received 12 outstanding proposals from 4 snow leopard range countries covering research, capacity building, public education and so on. These proposals not only pointed out conservation gaps, but also give their own solutions to specific conservation questions, making the small grant really competitive.

Due to limited resources, we are not able to fund all projects. After consulting with experts, we finally selected 3 projects to collaborate with, they are:

  • National Trust for Nature Conservation (Nepal): Status of snow leopards in Gaurishankar Conservation Area, Nepal;
  • World Wide Fund for Nature (Pakistan): Building Ecological and Sustainable Transport/Linear Infrastructure for Snow Leopard habitats in the Hindukush-Karakoram-Himalaya Landscape in Pakistan (BEAST);
  • Snow leopard Conservation Foundation(Mongolia): Empowering local champions in snow leopard landscape.

Congratulations for the winning projects. Other projects are also very impressive, thank you for your contribution to snow leopard conservation, and hope we can collaborate in the future.
